Design Thinking
Reimagining Learning Spaces through Design Thinking
Creating meaningful learning environments in a school requires more than just physical structures. It calls for thoughtful design grounded in empathy and an understanding of students’ needs. In line with this, a hands-on staff training was conducted on Design Thinking by STUCK, an award-winning Singapore-based design thinking company for all staff. The focus of the training was on how school spaces can be reimagined to better support student engagement, collaboration, and well-being.
The workshop began with participants exploring the importance of Design
Thinking in driving 21st Century Competencies (21CC). Through case studies
and guided discussions, they gained insights into the Design Thinking process,
empathising, discovering, ideating, prototyping, and testing and its relevance
in CCKPS.
Participants then engaged in the Empathise and Discover phase, working
with challenge statements and developing student personas. With the support
of AI-driven tools, they deepened their understanding of students’ perspectives,
allowing for more intentional and student-centred design. In the Ideating
segment, teams generated innovative and non-obvious solutions tailored
to their selected personas.
The experience provided valuable opportunities to rethink existing school spaces and explore how they can be transformed into more inclusive, flexible, and purposeful environments. It also highlighted the importance of aligning physical spaces with pedagogical approaches to enhance student agency and overall learning experiences. This training underscores the school’s commitment to innovation and continuous improvement, as we strive to create learning spaces that nurture creativity, collaboration, and a strong sense of ownership in learning in CCKPS.
